Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day and windy on at that. I like to report on the weather first because it is the very first thing I check each morning. And depending how Mother nature is feeling, I may need to check it several times during the day. Its been 24 years since my mom has passed and I still miss her the same way every mothers day. I ended up giving my mother in law a day Lillie that I had potted after I had split several along a wood chip bank. And my plans changed this morning after going to campus to do some regular chores, so my wife will have to wait for hers. She fully understands, my bad luck seems to continue. I'll just keep trying to ride it out. I tried a new poison ivy solution last year and Mary picked me up some more today. My out break this time is so severe that I got ht Doc. to write me a script for prednisone. The spray I am using is Ivy- Dry Super. With patented Zytrel in it, what ever that is. It also has Zinc Acetate,Benzyl Alcohol, Camphor and Menthol. I like because it is a spray and stings a little when you put it on. It also seems to help with the itching faster then anything I have ever used. If you work outside like I do, a supply of this product is a must.

Mary's Vegetable Garden. I must confess that the last couple of years I have invaded my wife's section of our property for her vegetable garden. So this year I have made an effort to clean it up, (my seedlings, splittings) and provide her the space she needs. She has starter her plants in doors and they a seem to be doing well. Some re getting leggy,, but I think Mary may be reluctant to put them out just yet. With all the wind, and they are eve talking about a frost tonight, so I think sh will be fine. She does not have a lot of time to spend on it so covering and un covering just won't work for her. Yet I guarantee she will produce a crop of tomato's, eggplant, beans, squash and peppers. Just thinking about it and I can smell the eggplant parm we will make later this summer. And that brings me to future events. Every Sunday not including this one I will have one of our favorite recipes for you. Or at least one that we might like to try.

Plant of the Day. Pin Oak is great street tree. It can with stand many elements. Heat, salt, small planting areas, and compaction. With little care, these trees can become looming monsters of urban streets and cool the atomshere by 10 degrees under their canopy. Also its roots will not protrude and heave up walks or roads. They will need some pruning along the way, and be sure you are making correct cuts. I have seen plenty of these trees that do very well except the person that pruned it had no clue what they were doing. There are a couple in Sterns Square that would be perfect except for the knuckle head that does not know how to properly head back lower limbs. In this case a certified arborist can be a big help. Even if its in consultation. Do the right thing once. Save yourself or the next person a lot of headaches.

Politics. I can't wait for President Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court.
Here a fact. A red jeep with Mass plates was going 44 m.p.h. in a 35m.p.h zone to day at 8:10am this morning on Wilbraham Rd. Slow down, I'll be watching.

Monday starts a new week, Some of the topics we can cover are different turf programs, mail box's and cemetery plots. Good luck with the new week.

P.S. The mud has turned back to mud.
