Everything Needs H2O

Automatic sprinkler Head in the Lawn area.
After an UN eventful winter and a warmer then normal end to it this spring has been dry, dry, dry.
And with no rain in site it is definitely time to turn on the automatic sprinkler system, or get the hoses out. All turf areas are in need of 1 inch of water a week and all trees and shrubs that were newly planted last year need a good soaking. Trees and shrubs I like to give five gallons of water for every foot height of leaf tissue. So if you planted a new Rhododendron and it is about a foot and a half, give it about 7 or 8 gallons of water. If it is a 7 foot tree give it 30 gallons of water, a week.

Hyacinths are a great  early spring bloomer that adds fragrance to the landscape. Planted in groupings with multiple colors is a great way to provide tons of color to your plant beds in the spring. Let them die back and they will be stronger the next year. Here we have Blue Jacket , Pink Frosting, and City of Haarlem. Narciussus Hyacinth or Hyacinthus Hyacinth work very well in sandy loam soils.

Prunus glandulosa Dwarf Flowering Almond

Flowering Almond is a very bright and beautiful flowering shrub that provides long lasting blooms. The plant will need pro active pruning to increase air circulation through out. We use it in small spaces in a row or even a a horseshoe pattern. But can also stand alone in your landscape or group it with other plants along your home foundation. Just remember it needs it's space and you need to make continued pocket and thinning cuts to keep bloom active year to year.Likes full sun but it can withstand some shade but not deep shade of larger canopy of trees.

Soil Temperatures this week barley reached 50 degrees, in which case you still should have waited to but down crab grass control in the lawn ares. And looking at the long term weather forecast it would appear that next week will be the week for that first round of Crab grass control with fertilizer. Water in the application good. If you had a crab grass problem last year, may-be you want to give it 2 applications. Remember to water!!!!!!~ We are well below where we usually are for this time of the season for rain and could use 4 or 5 inch's just to get caught up. Thanks for reading, time to go get dirty in the vegetable garden.
