Working On A Dream

Although I have been away awhile, my chores have been mighty and more then one person can handle. And during the heat its almost impossible to sit down and write,so I have been working on a dream. And as Bruce Springsteen puts it, it seems so far away. The heat wave was an absolute scorcher. If your lawn got scorched and burned out it will come back. But it needs extra attention. Water a inch a week, Fert, a good analyse with iron and K to build back up the roots. And you also will have to over seed. Its just a little to early for that. First weeks of September is a perfect time to establish a lawn. So if your are thinking about it you better get serious. I will examine a costs saving procedure for starting a new lawn in a later bog.

New Plants

We have continued to add new plants, trees, and shrubbery to the big campus garden. And with the heat we have been pumping water like no tomorrow. If you have planted any new material in the last 3 years it has all needed water this summer. Like my friend Chris Frank from C.L.Frank and Company says, Theses new plants are like babies and when they enter the landscape they need to be treated just like they were in the nursery. Plenty of water and care. With any new plants or turf area, they all need care just like it is a baby.

Plant of the Post
Whack out Oak, its only one of two in Western Ma. And we have one. We planted it this week. I am hopefully going to get a marker for it so it will be identified. We will report more as the tree grows.

Fineto

Before I continue with any stories, I thought this blog was supposed to be about gardening. It must be vacation time. Time to go and renew. Or not come back at all.
The old Yankee Stadium was a grand place. And I mean the old place, before renovation in the 70s. You could feel the spirit of lives gone by there. I first went for ball day 1970, A double header in 1971 with Cleveland, Old Timers Day in 1972 and Bat Day 1973. Back again to the first game at the renovated stadium in 1976.  Can't wait for our trip this year. So many memories it is sometimes hard to visit. My favorite is when the Yankees brought back Billy Martin for Old timers day and announced he would manage the team the next year. The place erupted for a eight minute standing ovation. Being there that day was incredible.
Old Business
Family is a strange and funny thing. Each one different but the same. My mother and father worked very hard to provide for us. And our family much like others survived. During some of those hard times I remember my parents doing a lot of cost saving measures. Canning, jarring, all that stuff. It came natural to my father as his parents did the same. With the exception of a couple of items that were on my grandmothers list compared to my parents. We will view the list some other time.

That's all for today, Good luck Eddie Pags

P.S. Beware of tomato blight
Where have you gone Anthony Arlotta?
