Weed Control in the plant beds and the turf area has many solutions. We are always doing some form of weed control almost every day. Cultivation with mulch and a good preventive such as Preen, Snap Shot, or straight Dimension seems to be working pretty good this year. With over 5 acres of plant beds our weed control chores never seem done. After we see germination of new weeds I like to use Round Up Quick Pro. I like to see the weeds wilting the same day. For weed in the turf you can always spot treat with any product. But if the lawn has been over come with multiple things like clover and dandelion, I strongly recommend Lebanon's Weed and Feed if you can find it anywhere. Sometimes A.W. Brown has it. It is good stuff, and has great control. A.W. Browns is in East Longmeadow Ma.
Poison Ivy, Yes I have it again this year. My solutions are, Ruli gel, which is now sold by Band- Aid. Also, well basically I would use the whole store if I could. I like to con cock a sweet fern tea also. It is a plant that grows in the wild, I boil it up, strain it and squeeze it and then get the tea nice and cold. Apply to affected areas with a clean towel and you can feel the rash shrink. And when all else fails I use bleach. It helps try it out faster.
Politics, Can anyone stop the oil Leak. Chris Asslin running for his old seat in the 9Th Hampden district. Once a crook always a crook. My prediction, Curren in a landslide. 4-1.
The street sweepers looked busy today getting coffee at Dunkin Donuts at Breckwood Blvd. this morning. Also While working on the Bradly Rd side of campus I must of saw a least 7, yes 7 I counted them, city vehicles. I wonder if anyone in this city really knows what all these city workers are doing. They should think about having G.P.S. to track all the vehicle traffic of city trucks and vans.
I have noticed alot of the lawns are already suffering from draught. Its also been very windy drying things even more. If you do not have automatic irrigation then its time to get those hoses out. It you do have irrigation you might turn up the times of each zone a little. The wind has also knocked down a lot of tree limbs and sticks. Good luck getting them all up.
Plant of the Day, Cherry tree. Any kind I like them all. Weeping, Kousa, Street tree, in the Landscape or all alone. With flowers or with-out. All kinds I like any of them. The one I happen to notice today is one that I have seen for three weeks in a row and every time it has had gorgeous flowers while providing shade and structure to the planting. Coming events The Hawthorne.
A lot of plant sales upcoming in the future weeks. I look forward to going to a least one. That's all for today. Good Luck and stay dirty, Eddie Pags
