October Glory at Western New England University

A Red Maple stands out in a cluster of Pine
The fall foliage season is in full Peak here in the Pioneer Valley. There are plenty of colors along the hillsides. This Maple tree is sometimes referred to as October Glory for it's bright red colors during it's peak. Most of the better tree service individuals or nursery people will often pick a tree for it's fall color rather then it's spring flower. Over the past several years we have been adding more specimen trees to our inventory with the first purpose to add fall color and a different variety of tree to fill out the landscape. Eventually having a small arboretum through out campus.

Many annuals have gone bye at this time with some of the Inpatients and begonias hanging in there. The mums are in full bloom and fall bulb season is up next.

Proper irrigation blow outs are crucial to next years start up.Make sure you turn off all the timers to these automatic systems. If not you can destroy the timer by having it continually call for water.

Many gardeners are not looking forward to winter as well as I. So over the winter I will try and produce a nice setting of natural cuttings to view and help us keep busy during the winter months.

Off to my first whale watch this week end, the landscape will be much different out at sea then here at the home base.

Does anyone remember the old 3 on the tree manual transmissions on cars? My first car had one. Do they still make them for trucks?

Water all new planting one last time before you put your garden hose's away.
